COMMISSIONED ART

In your search for a painting, it may be that you have a certain location in mind, a type of visual atmosphere or an unusual size or format which you have been looking for but has been impossible to find.

In that case, you may want to consider commissioning a painting by an artist whose work you like and who is able to provide you with exactly what you want.

Here is an example of a recent commission carried out by Tom Barron for a customer who wanted a very specific painting for a location within their home.

The painted view was from a house in Dundee, overlooking the city, the river Tay and Tay bridge and over to Fife beyond.

The painting size was unusual and at 78 inches by 24 inches it made a very panoramic visual image.

Initially, Tom visited the location and took digital photographs and notes on the customer requirements, returning to the studio and ordering the one-off canvas from Harris Moore Canvases.

Stage One
The Painting Begins
The work is scaled-up onto the canvas from a series of digital photographs. A painted composition layout forms the basis of the underpainting, onto which further layers of paint and detailed painting work are added.

Stage 3
Progress as Foreground and Detail are Added
The underpainting is developed and further areas of the canvas are covered, providing the composition arrangement and tonal values of the piece.

Working in stages, Tom adds detail to the underpainting in layers which gradually build-up to the finished work.

Stage 4
Finished in the Studio
Photographs of the work in progress are sent by email to the customer on a regular basis to ensure that the work meets with their expectations.

Careful painting work is required where the piece is based on a specific location, as the work has to be geographically correct and correctly proportioned elements are an important aspect.

Stage 8
Installed
On this occasion, the customer requested a full framing and installation service, which was supervised and carried out by Tom.

The painting fitted perfectly into the pre-arranged space.
Stage 9
In the Room
You can have what you want with a commissioned painting, whether it be location or painting style.

If you are considering the commission of a special piece, please contact Tom by phone or email to discuss the requirements.
