ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Tom Barron is a Scottish landscape painter and artist in
oils and pastels, born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in
1961.
He trained in design in Edinburgh and worked as a design
consultant from 1983 - 2004, during which time an early
love of oil painting developed from exhibiting and selling
widely in Perthshire galleries, into his main working activity.
Tom now works as a full time artist, based at his studio
and gallery in Muthill, Perthshire, which opened in April
2007.
Much of his work is now owned privately, in many collections
both in the UK and internationally.
‘ My
work is all about the natural world, the climate
and the landscape of Scotland.’ |
Tom travels extensively in order to capture the landscape
and coastal images in pastel sketch form, in painted works
and with a digital camera, which works well when painting
on his return to the studio.
Tom immerses himself in the land around him, and paints
what he feels about the real landscape, an impression of
the wet and often dark reality of the land here and the sea
around us.
Those who know and love Scotland will recognise
some of the conditions shown in the paintings and the atmosphere
they portray.
‘I
believe there is an emotional content to my work
which relates to the diversity and often harshness
of the climate and the solitude of the landscape
of Scotland’ |
The stark reality of the seasons here, make for some
very interesting and fulfilling painting opportunities which
can be seen in Tom's work. |
